In basic terms Triumph created a sports coupe from its popular Triumph Spitfire sports car improving its performance by installing its 6 cylinder 2000 engine from the Triumph 2000.
The Mark 1 produced 95 bhp followed by a Mark 2 and 3 version with 104 bhp. In their day the GT6 MK2 and 3 were considered fast the MK 3 achieving a best of 112 mph with a 0-60 time of 9.8 seconds.
Main rival of this small coupe was the slower MG MGB GT.
