The Vauxhall Victor was a mainstay of the Vauxhall family saloon between 1957 and 1978. Always well-priced it offered reasonable performance, economy, and practicality to the mass market. Styles varied quite considerably over the years moving from the American influence of rear fins with the Victor FA to the boxy shapes of the FB and FC series. American influence reappeared with the FD series and its coke bottle flanks. The final interpretation of the Victor the FE was the largest and certainly provided street credibility if only for its size.
None of the Victors were especially quick although their sports versions such as the VX/490 and Ventora 3.3 litre did perform adequately if not well enough to threaten rivals. The later FE series provided more power and better performance with its 2300 engine.
1970 Vauxhall VX/490 (FD)= Top Speed=97 mph 0-60=13.2 secs 21mpg
1976 Vauxhall VX 2300 (FE): Top Speed=104mph 0-60=11.3secs 25mpg
